The latest of Salisbury Reds new electric buses are taking to the city’s roads. Nine brand new Wrightbus GB Kite single decker zero emissions vehicles have arrived, and will serve the city’s Park&Ride routes.
“We’re thrilled to be welcoming these latest additions to our fleet, which are joining the electric buses already serving Salisbury and the surrounding area,” said Andrew Sherrington, Salisbury Reds general manager.
“As with the rest of our electric fleet, the arrival of these vehicles has been made possible with funding from the Department for Transport’s ZEBRA 2 (Zero Emission Bus Regional Area) scheme. In addition to this, Salisbury Reds and Wiltshire Council have together invested almost £15m.
“This joint investment between DfT, Salisbury Reds and Wiltshire Council ensures greener, better, journeys for our customers - and will have a significant impact on the region’s overall carbon emissions.”
Cllr Martin Smith, Wiltshire Council’s cabinet member for highways, streetscene and flooding, added: “We’re delighted to see these new electric buses entering service on Salisbury’s park & ride routes. This investment demonstrates what can be achieved when local authorities, bus operators and central government work together towards a common goal.
“Providing an accessible, safer and greener public transport network is a key priority for Wiltshire Council, and these zero-emission vehicles will help improve air quality, reduce carbon emissions and enhance the overall experience for passengers.
“We hope that by continuing to invest in greener transport options, even more people will choose to use Salisbury’s park & ride services, helping to reduce congestion in the city while supporting our wider environmental ambitions.”
