Salisbury Reds is marking International Women’s Day - Saturday 8 March - by holding a special event aimed at encouraging more women into the bus industry.

Female representatives will be on-hand at the Guildhall Square to talk about their own experiences and answer questions about working ‘on the buses’ - and there will be an opportunity to book a driving experience at the Salisbury Reds depot.

Across the UK, women are still vastly under-represented in this field - although this is improving with 19 new female drivers joining us in the last year - and 8 currently in our training school. We are working hard to encourage more to consider working within the bus industry as a driver or engineer.

We often hear from women that they don’t feel they could drive a bus. We know this is not the case. If you can drive a car, we will teach you the rest. With the right training, it’s far easier than many might think.

And what better time to hold a special event to talk about all this than International Women’s Day? The theme this year is ‘Accelerate Action’ - and we are inviting women in Salisbury to accelerate their careers with Salisbury Reds.

Those with a customer service or retail background will be particularly welcome because we value this kind of experience as highly as driving skills.

We’re looking forward to welcoming lots of potential Salisbury Reds team members on 8 March. This could just be for an informal chat with our friendly team members - or even an interview if they bring your ID and driving licence with you.

We will be bringing our distinctive pink double decker bus to the Guildhall Square on Saturday 8 March between 9am and 3pm.
