Getting to school with us in September

We will be running lots of extra buses to help ensure everyone can get to school, with the assistance of Wiltshire Council.

Capacity restrictions due to Covid-19 will continue to exist on the normal bus network, so additional journeys will be provided on the busiest routes. In many cases these will be for scholars-only and will run with different route numbers to the normal route.

Capacity restrictions will not be in place on all existing and new scholars-only routes, in line with government guidance.
Please use the following guide to find out the changes as they apply to your school. Detailed timetables will be added to the website in the very near future.

Please note that face coverings will need to be worn by all senior school pupils when travelling on our buses, except those exempted for medical reasons.

 

Bishop Wordsworth School

The school will have a later start time and some extra journeys will operate to provide city centre arrivals at approximately 0920, as follows:

· on route 44, from Redlynch, Woodfalls and Downton

· on route X3 (as new scholars-only route 653) from Fordingbridge and Downton

· on route X4 (as new scholars-only route 654) from Amesbury and Boscombe Down

· on route X7 (as scholars-only route 677) from Wellow, Plaitford, Landford, Whiteparish, Alderbury and Whaddon

Burgate School

There are no changes to services, except that afternoon buses will depart at 14:55 to reflect a slightly earlier finish to the school day.

Downton Road will be closed for roadworks between 3 and 25 September, with buses diverted via Odstock Road and Rowbarrow. Scholars that normally board buses in Downton Road from any stop between the garage and the park & ride site are advised to instead use stops in Newbridge Road (south of the gyratory), at New Bridge junction (south of the gyratory) or in Rowbarrow.

 

Devizes School

The 07:20 route 102 Upavon to Devizes School will be renumbered 901 and operate as a scholars-only service.

 

Laverstock Schools

Morning:

The following changes will occur to provide additional capacity:

· on route 37, the existing journey at 07:35 from West Grimstead to Laverstock Schools will be replaced by new scholars-only route 937, which will operate at 07:35 from Alderbury via Whaddon, West Grimstead, East Grimstead, Farley and Pitton

· on route 66, the existing journey at 07:16 from Devizes Road to Laverstock Schools will be replaced by new scholars-only (school children only) route 666. A separate bus on route 66 will run for commuters to Porton Down, departing from Salisbury Rail Station at 0740 and from Endless street at 0745.

· on route 66, the existing journey at 08:25 from Rail Station will duplicated by an additional scholars-only (school children only) journey at 08:30 on route 663 between Endless Street and Laverstock School

· on route 638, the existing journey at 07:10 from West Dean to Laverstock Schools via the Grimsteads, Farley and Pitton will be replaced by new scholars-only (school children only) route 937, which will operate at 07:35 from Alderbury via Whaddon, West Grimstead, East Grimstead and Farley. Students from Pitton should now catch new bus 88 at 0754.

· on route 650, the normal double-deck bus will be duplicated by an additional journey provided with a single-deck vehicle; this route will be affected by the closure of Downton Road for roadworks between 3 and 25 September, with buses diverted via Odstock Road and Rowbarrow. Scholars that normally board in Downton Road should to instead use stops in Newbridge Road (south of the gyratory), at New Bridge junction (south of the gyratory) or in Rowbarrow

· on route 663, an additional 08:30 journey will operate between Endless Street and Laverstock Schools

· on route 966, the existing 07:40 Idmiston to South Wilts Grammar School via Laverstock journey will be operated by a coach and duplicated by new scholars-only (school children only) route  965, which will operate between Allington and Laverstock Schools only, also with a coach; an additional morning journey will also operate at 08:20 between Porton and Laverstock School for St Joseph’s scholars

 

Afternoon:

The following changes will occur to provide additional capacity from Laverstock Schools

· on route 37, students who travel from Laverstock Schools at 1600 will now travel on an extra bus numbered 937 that will not serve the city centre

· on route 66, the existing journey at 15:07 from Laverstock Schools to the city centre will instead be provided by new scholars-only (school children only) route 666

· on route 66, the existing journey at 15:24 from Laverstock Schools to Allington will instead be provided by new scholars-only (school children only) route 966.

· on route 650, the normal double-deck bus will be duplicate by an additional journey provided with a single-deck vehicle, please check the destinations carefully as they terminate in different locations.

· on route 663, the existing double-deck journey at 15:05 from Laverstock Schools to Wilton Road will be duplicated by an additional journey. Also the existing 15:45 journey from Laverstock Schools to the City Centre will be duplicated by an additional journey provided with a coach.

 

Marlborough St John’s School

 

An additional bus will be provided from Pewsey at 0752 for students that attend St. Johns School, numbered 695. The existing morning X5 journey will still operate via the school. In the afternoon a special coach will be provided at 1530 for St. Johns School students to Pewsey, Upavon, Enford, Netheravon, Durrington and Amesbury.

 

Pewsey Vale School

The 07:37 route 102 journey from Devizes to Pewsey Vale School and the 14:50 route 101 journeys from Pewsey to Devizes (via Pewsey Vale School) will both be renumbered route 901 and operate as a scholars-only (school children only) service. An extra bus will also run from Pewsey at 1420 to cater for ordinary passengers.

 

Salisbury City Centre Schools & Colleges

Morning:

The later start time at Bishop Wordsworth School and associated extra journeys will help ensure sufficient capacity exists for those travelling to South Wilts Grammar School and other city centre locations, please refer to the Wiltshire Council leaflet. Some additional journeys or additional capacity will also be provided, as follows:

 

· On Route 2, an extra bus run by another company will operate from Great Wishford at 08:00 and South Newton at 08:05 to the City Centre.

· on route 20, a new scholars-only (school children only) service will operate as route 720 between Blandford and South Wilts Grammar School, duplicating the normal service between Blandford and the City Centre

· on route 27, a new scholars-only (school children only) duplicate service will operate as route 627 from Shaftesbury to South Wilts Grammar School

· on route 29, a double-deck bus will be used on the 07:41 from Broad Chalke

· on route 44, the existing journey at 07:26 from Morgans Vale Corner to South Wilts Grammar School will be duplicated by an extra scholars-only (school children only) service numbered 645.

· on route 44A, the existing journey at 07:42 from Fordingbridge to South Wilts Grammar School will be renumbered 644 and operate as a scholars-only (school children only) service

· on route 87, the existing journey at 07:28 from Lopcombe Corner to South Wilts Grammar School will be renumbered 687 and operate as a scholars-only (school children only) service at 07:35 from Winterslow to South Wilts Grammar School; an additional journey numbered 88 will operate from Lopcombe Corner at 07:35 and run via Laverstock Schools and the City Centre to South Wilts Grammar

· on route X4, the existing journey at 07:20 from Larkhill to the city centre will be renumbered 654 and operate as a scholars-only (school children only) service; additionally, a new scholars-only journey will operate from Amesbury as route 654 at 07:38 and 08:42, duplicating the normal X4 buses.

Afternoon:

In the afternoon, additional journeys or additional capacity will be provided as follows:

· on Route 2, an extra bus will be run by a different operator from South Wilts Grammar School to South Newton and Great Wishford at 1552 and the City Centre at 1605.

· on route 20, a new scholars-only service will operate as route 720 between South Wilts Grammar School and Blandford, duplicating the normal service between the City Centre and Blandford

· on route 25, a new scholars-only duplicated service will operate as route 635 from South Wilts Grammar School to Chilmark at 15:55

· route 29A to Broad Chalke will operate as a scholars-only service

· on route 44, the existing journey at 15:52 from South Wilts Grammar School to Hamptworth will be renumbered 645 and operate as a scholars-only (school children only) service

· on route 87, the existing journey at 15:52 from South Wilts Grammar School to Lopcombe Corner will be renumbered 687 and operate as a scholars-only (school children only) service

· on route X3, the existing journeys at 16:10 from the city centre will be duplicated by a new scholars-only (school children only) route 653 between the city centre and Fordingbridge (Salisbury Street)

· on route X4, the existing journeys that depart the city centre at 15:45 and 16:15 will each be duplicated by additional journeys on new scholars-only (school children only) route 654 between the city centre and Amesbury

· on route X7, the existing journey at 15:52 from South Wilts Grammar School to Sherfield English will be renumbered 657 and operate as a scholars-only service

Trafalgar School at Downton

 

Salisbury Reds will be additionally providing new scholars only routes D2 and D3 from various locations within Salisbury and Wilton. These services can only be used with a pass bought from and issued by the school.
