Marlborough
If you like old English market towns full of character and charm, with beautiful old buildings round every corner you'll love Marlborough! Although we can trace its origins back to Roman times, Marlborough is no sleepy backwater; it's a busy place with smart shops and a lively atmosphere that fits in with today's lifestyles. People like coming to the town for the bustling, twice-weekly market held in the middle of the incredibly wide high street. You'll find all sorts of treasure on the stalls, tasty local farmers' produce, and more than a bargain or two if you know where to look!
People watch in any of the chic cafés that line the High Street, or admire buildings like The Merchant's House, one the finest examples of a 17th century middle class home with period features, paintings and artifacts. It's open on certain days - see the Merchants House website for details.
Marlborough’s cosmopolitan atmosphere is complimented by the annual International Jazz Festival which takes place in July and a Food Festival in October.
